Siege

Yeah, so, large amounts of rain = large amounts of mosquitos.

We sprayfoamed every gap and crack we could see, and in the evening, it was much better.

Then 4am came, and a screaming swarm found its way inside somehow. I had a full dozen on my head at one time. It was extremely demoralizing.

Turns out, a goodly number were pouring down the chimney and out through the stove. The fix is relatively easy, if somewhat ghetto.

That wasn’t all of it, though. Given that we had a high concentration near the windows, we assumed an entry point there. We currently have no more spray foam, so hello TuckTape.

There were some gaps between the trim and the window frame on the outside. This will be siliconed in short order. But for the time being, Tuck Tape both externally and internally, while extremely ugly, is functional. Last night we actually slept for 7 hours without being attacked.

In non-mosquito-related news, I have been practicing my spinning again. I haven’t done any at all in over a year. My technique is extremely rusty and the resulting yarn is ugly and chunky, but that’s okay.

This particular yarn, my “learning yarn” is destined to be plied, and then I give the yarn to Mom and she crochets it onto the existing round. When I am satisfied that I can move on to better, finer yarn, the crocheted round will be washed and dried and become a felted rug. The plying process compensates for a lot of the unevenness.

I have my actual spinning wheel here, now, too, but it is not currently functional. It is an antique and the bobbin was damaged. A friend took said bobbin over a year ago to have it 3D printed, and it hasnt made it back this way, yet. For now, the hand spindle and my kick spindle are more than sufficient. It’s something to do of an evening that doesnt require bright light. Put a podcast or a sermon on, and do something that is both artistic and useful.
