My new linden trees are leafing and appear happy. The butternut and persimmon trees havent leafed YET, but hopefully soon. The asian pear is leafing and doing fairly well.
I have planted out 5 hackberry (2 in the orchard, 3 in the nutwood), 5 buffalo berry, several high mallow, some meadow sage.
I still need to figure out where to put the gingko and the seabuckthorns. Need to get the rest of the mallow and meadow sage and rudbeckia in the ground, need to plant my grapes and get the t-posts in.
My mushroom beds are already fruiting, which is very early. It was extremely hot this week. Supposed to be cooler going forward, which I appreciate. I dont like hot.
I have probably lost one pear tree. It’s one that was mom’s and struggled for years in her yard, then came here. It just doesnt seem to be waking up. One of my plum trees had to be cut back hard, and one of my apples is struggling. Since it’s the one we call ‘Lazarus’ because it’s been dead once before, I’m not going to call it dead until a solid season has gone by without leafing out.
My Jerusalem Artichoke may not be ENTIRELY dead. I seem to have one sprout coming up. We shall see.
This is such a weird time of year. Some things are in full flush and others are still thinking about maybe waking up sometime soon. Makes it hard to be certain about anything.
