On Thursday, we planted the last of the trees for this year (2 types of oak) and then dug up another 10-ish nearly 5 ft spruces for a friend. Mom had brought her dog along, and things went well…until they didnt and my dog tried a power play on her dog and suddenly we have a fight on our hands and both dogs are bleeding, and since her dog was tied around her waist, mom got dragged through a bush, so SHE was bleeding, and in the pulling apart of the two dogs, my pelvis got twisted, so even though I WASN’T bleeding, it still really hurt. Yay. Stupid dogs. They’re friends most of the time, but they go middle-school dramatic occasionally and mean-girl each other. *sigh*
Anyway, as a result, Friday and Saturday were of necessity more quiet days. Walking was painful, so I didnt do a lot of it. I sat a lot. Watched Voiceplay videos on YouTube. (If you like epic ACapella music and haven’t heard them yet, check them out sometime. It’s worth it).
Saturday evening, we packed up and headed for mom’s, as we have done the last few weeks. Laundry, of course, and a workday Sunday. We’re making good progress on the new goat pen. All the postholes are dug, most of the posts are in (minus the ones that would block the delivery of the shed itself), and the fenceline is largely clear of debris.

We made a start on putting the wooden crosspieces between the posts, too, but a very dull sawblade stalled that particular job. New/sharpened blade will be installed later this week, so we’ll get back at it next weekend. Hopefully, by that point, the wire that was ordered will have come in also, and we can start pounding fencing staples.
Today, we had a workday here. It’s Victoria Day, so a work holiday, which gave us the time to finish building and installing the gates on the chicken pen. Now, all we need to do is borrow the grinder and cut the chicken door through the steel wall. We tested the generator (to run said grinder) since it hasnt been run in over a year, and while it took a bit to turn over, it did in fact run fine.

We also finished installing the clothesline mechanism outside, so I actually have capacity to hang clothing out again. It’s been awhile. This is a retractable 6-line unit, so when not in use, it gets spooled away and neednt impede yard traffic in any way. Easy to mow under and around.

The kiwi arbor was lacking two posts, so we installed those, too. Using the auger makes it so easy. I’m thinking we may need to re-install the other three posts that were put in last year, as we didnt have the auger at the time, and simply pounded them in. They’re not as deep, and far wobblier.
There were two jobs on the list we didnt get to. The SkeeterVac unit still isnt re-igniting, so some more indepth trouble-shooting is needed there. Possibly the fuel filter. And we didnt get the screens taken down and rescreened with the smaller mesh. The blackflies were horribly vicious, and kept chasing us inside. We’ll take a look at that job later this week.
All in all, good progress has been made. I am content. I’ll take pictures tomorrow and post them.
