Thursday, we planted trees.
Friday, kiddos and I visited friends, and picked up another tree. A Shipova pear. We also dug out some daylilies from the ditch in front of husband’s work (with permission). I got thebpear tree planted that evening, but the daylilies are in a pot, yet, waiting.
Saturday, we were supposed to get ‘a shower’. It POURED rain the entire day and half the night. If I had to guess, I would say we probably got a full inch of rain. Which, as far as all the new trees goes is fantastic. A good, deep drink to help them establish.
Yesterday, we celebrated a birthday. Lasagna, coleslaw, punch and keylime pie, a trip to the playground and a pile of presents.
Once home, husband wrestled with and set up the new SkeeterVac that we are desperately hoping helps to keep the mosquito population down (or at least out of the house) this year. Turns out that the one I purchased isnt the one I THOUGHT I purchased, so I hope it functions properly. They aren’t inexpensive, so I’d rather not have to purchase another.
Today is grey and blustery and cool again. It doesn’t feel terribly “springlike”, but time goes on all the same. I just ordered the kiddos’ garden beds, so that’s something. If I can today, I also need to get those daylilies in the ground, and I think I still have a few liatris bulbs to stick in. I have a big roll of landscape fabric due in shortly, and I will be adding mats of that around the bases of the trees over the next bit, to keep thr weeds down and hopefully prevent the dog from continuing to dig up what I have just planted. Always something to do in the garden or orchard.
