Snowpocalypse

It started snowing on Thursday with high wind. It stopped Monday. In that time, it shut down pretty much the entire province. Central and Eastern more than here in the West, but we got our share. Anywhere from 19 cm at the least to 87 cm at the worst, plus add major drifting. Highways and major roads had 6 to 10 foot drifts. Driveways were solidly wind-packed at 3 or 4 feet.

Then, to add to the fun, it finished off with freezing rain.

Messy is an understatement.

It is Wednesday now and MOST of the main roads are opened and at least semi-driveable, but on Monday, this is what a fairly main road looked like:

Motorists were stuck and stranded. Cars ended up abandoned on roadways all over the province. This made the plow operators’ job more difficult and more dangerous.

Up to this point, our snow accumulation has been pretty small. Apparently winter decided to arrive all at once in a single weekend.

And then by THIS weekend, it is supposed to be above freezing and raining. February has some serious bipolarity issues.

In other news, husband is on the job hunt again. His current employer has failed to pay his employees for a few weeks and there are solid rumours of serious cashflow issues. We cannot afford to work for free, so out comes the resume again. He has a drop-in at one prospective job this afternoon. Hopefully, it pans out. Should be a nice place to work.

Also – what is this yellow shiny thing in the sky? Could it be the mythological thing called “the sun?” The ‘sun’ has not been seen in these parts for so long it has passed from living memory….
