Retrospect

A year ago today, people were looking dismayed at their properties, seeing what damage the storm had wrought. Even here, where the damage was minimal, we had a bunch of trees come down across the driveway.

Today, we are splitting and stacking the last of that wood for winter use. We already have probably 4 cord of wood sitting here, between what we brought with us, what we brought in last fall, and what was already fallen on the land. I have another 3 cord coming in at some point. It was supposed to be this last week, but he didn’t get here. Probably the coming week or the week after.

A lot of the wood we have right now is overly-dry, bordering on not-good-for-burning-anymore, so we’ll definitely be using that up first. What we don’t manage to use this year, we will bury and create hügel mounds to plant into.

Softwood pile. Mostly pine and poplar. Low BTU’s, okay for the shoulder season.
The current hardwood pile. Some we brought with us, some is maple that was already here, some is birch that fell last year. More is coming.
