Today was sunny. Ish. It was supposed to be clouds and sun, but we had a few sulky little rain squalls, just to keep us soggy.
Mom was out, so together we got several more things planted into the orchard. 2 apple trees, 4 cherry shrubs, 3 clumps of hyssop , 1 elderberry, 1 red currant, and a large clump of California poppy. After lunch, we fired up the splitter and split and stacked about half of the poplar that came down in Fiona last year. Poplar burns okay as long as it is dry, but it really needs to be split to dry well. The bark is thick and waxy.
Coming up in the next few weeks, I need to finish the poplar, move up and split the rest of the softwood we brought in last fall, get that stacked, stack the new firewood once it arrives, and then I have a few dozen more things to plant in the orchard and surrounding areas.
Sometime in there, I should finish cleaning out the bus, too. We sort of just abandoned it in May and never finished the job.
