Changing Seasons

The big parade in Town is today. Call it a harvest festival, if you wish. Here, more often than not, Parade Weekend marks the end of summer.

The school system will be back in the swing of things within a few weeks, and ‘summer break’ will be over, but the summer weather more usually ends now. When we first moved here from another province many many moons ago, it was a noticeable and startling switch. Parade weekend meant the heat was pretty much over.

Early fall happens to be lovely, here. It is one of my favourite seasons. I dont like a lot of heat, so the relief is welcome and the bugs start to die back. Fall is a busy season. Garden harvest and preservation thereof, putting the beds to sleep, cutting, splitting and stacking the winter’s wood, making sure all is in readiness for the cold season.

We got a wee start on it yesterday. Not a huge beginning, maybe, but a beginning nonetheless. We moved the first of the woodpiles up against the building, for easier access in snowy weather

We have a lot left to move, yet, but once a job is begun it is easier to continue. I still need to arrange for some more hardwood, as I have a great deal of soft. It’s fine for the shoulder seasons, but winter nights need hardwood.
