Bug screen and Compost Fencing

We’re still fighting the battle of the mosquitos. Friday night was so bad, we chose to spend last night at mom’s, just to get a break and a chance to sleep without being under siege.

Had showers, did laundry, charged batteries. The usual. This afternoon, husband and I headed into Town to try to track down the kind of window screen that has the smaller mesh on it. The stuff meant to keep out gnats and midges and noseeums. Hopefully, that will help. Unfortunately, they don’t actually sell it in store, and it has to be ordered, so we wont have it for at least another week.

In the meantime, we have MosquitoBarrier –the super-extra-strong garlic oil spray. I mixed it double strength and all the windows, doors, and the perimeter have been liberally sprayed. We also acquired two bat boxes, which I am excited about. Those are more of a long-term solution, though, as it is unlikely that bats will move in immediately.

Now, I need to focus somewhat on fencing off the compost area. We’ve begun letting the dog run free in the yard, and she discovered the bucket pile and now that’s the only place she wants to go. And we really don’t want her there. But she is stubborn and very strong. So, simpler all around to fence it off. I will likely just throw up a wicker fence. Doesn’t take very long, isn’t super hard. Entirely free. Win-win.

We still have the chicken run fence to finish. We haven’t been home this weekend, so we’ll have to bang away at it in the evenings this week, if we can.

There’s always something that needs done.
