Here’s Hoping

Last night was another night of mosquito hell. I finally fell asleep because I was nauseated with exhaustion. Husband only fell asleep around dawn. As such, he didn’t make it to work today. He slept until noon while I started caulk-and-sprayfoam sealing the exterior of the windows.

I am not a good caulker. Good thing the stuff I was using is clear, or it would look horrible. The look is the least of the issue, though. I need it to keep out water and bugs. Don’t care overly about the rest. 4.75 tubes of caulk were used today and 4 cans of sprayfoam, while I was drizzled on, and made a banquet for the voracious little vampires. Gosh, I hate them. Someday, I would like to ask Father what their purpose is, because I see little good in them.

Given that the bug numbers were HORRIBLE today, we’re really hoping that the extra measures prove effective. We do NOT want another night like that. Sleep is necessary.

In the late afternoon, once the sealants were exhausted, we began to place the posts for the exterior chicken run. The poor birds have been stuck inside since we brought them here. They have a good-sized pen, but they need to be outside, digging in the dirt and eating bugs, getting fresh air and sunshine. Healthier all around that way. Of course, as soon as we started pounding posts, the rain started in earnest, so we didnt get them all in, but a beginning is better than nothing.

Between the extreme sweaty, sticky heat lately and the bugs (which the neighbour says are the worst he’s seen in 25 years), summer is not my favourite of the seasons thus far.
