Small Halleluyahs Matter

Hard days/weeks/seasons happen. It’s life. It’s a thing we all deal with. And sometimes, those seasons are so intense, or so long, or both, that remembering a time when things WEREN’T like that is really really difficult. And from there, one can easily spiral into hardcore depression.

No one wants that.

No one has time for that.

One of the ways to combat the “everything is horrible” space is to deliberately look for and make note of (preferably out loud to another human) the little things that are good. Oftentimes, it is the simplest things that can help one turn a corner.

Seeds sprouting up

Birds playing around the yard, or singing their little hearts out.

New leaves budding up on the trees

An especially delicious meal or beverage

Taking the time to notice and appreciate the little things helps buffer the big things.

One thing for me today (although all of the above have been present) was in the form of an Amazon package.

We live small, and even though we’re upgrading, space is still at a premium, so compact storage solutions and use of otherwise empty space is necessary. One very large space hog is the collection of pots and pans. They usually take up a whole shelf or drawer on their own, and we really can’t spare that much space. So, I went looking for a ceiling-mounted pot rack. There was nothing available in any of the local or not-so-local shops, so like you do, I hit the Amazon superstore and browsed through their offerings.

I am a compulsive reviews-reader. It takes me days to choose something, because I want the BEST something for the money. So I read, and I browsed and I left and came back and read and browsed some more. Eventually, I ran across a model that had good reviews, and also had a scratch-and-dent option for less than 50% of the original cost. There was ONE unit in the warehouse, previously sold and returned beccause of “cosmetic damage”. Well, I am perfectly fine with cosmetic damage. I have small kids. Cats. Dog. I live in a BARN, for pete’s sake. Like I care if something is a bit dinged up. I ordered the cheap unit.

It arrived today, and I unboxed it, curious as to how much damage we’re talking. The ‘damage’ in question is a case of 4 missing ceiling hooks. That’s it. The unit is entirely unblemished, I’m just going to need to buy a $5 pkg of hooks. Win!

The small halleluyahs matter. God shows up in the little moments more often than not.
