Half a Step…or Maybe Half a Journey..

Well, finally we have made some measure of progress. Husband headed out to the barn earlyish this morning, eager to get started. Or, reall, eager to be FINISHED, but that means getting started. He ended up doing a lot of the work himself, with help here and there when another set of hands were needed.

The hole was cut, the frame for the external supports built and installed, and then once mom came up for the afternoon, she helped him with the caulking, as we’ve not done that before but she has.

He and I then installed the external support, the t-section and the horizontal pipe….twice…because these things never run smoothly, no matter how hard you try.

While he fussed with one-person jobs in the install, I cooked, did dishes, built a raised bed, planted a tree, a shrub, and 2 root herbs.

Once he was finished with the small things, the two of us again tackled the internal connections. This necessitated moving the stove again, which is NOT FUN.

We aren’t done. There are still small things that have to be done with the internal connections, and the external pipe has to be erected, braced, etc. We will have to cut a hole in the edge of the roof, and box the two rafters on either side of it in metal flashing. But we’re halfway there, and this was the really hard part. The rest will be difficult because of height, but not complicated, I don’t think.

One more Sunday, and we SHOULD be finished.
