I didn’t sleep last night. It was many things; couldn’t find a comfortable position, clothing felt restrictive, mental looping, stupid rodent down in the kitchen (it always hides when we look for it, but we hear it), kiddos were unsettled and either talking in their sleep or calling me while awake. The nightlight was unsatisfactory again, apparently.
All in all, I got about 1 hour. So this morning was a bit rough and slow to get started. Before I was fully up yet, husband came back in from the well and informed me that it was broken again. We fixed it back in January. So today got a whole lot busier in one moment.
We had already planned a fairly busy day of barn chores. I was hoping to do more laundry, but lack of water noped that plan. (I did one work shirt and his pair of thermals, but that is all.)
The chicken pen has needed cleaned for a couple weeks. It was overly stinky. We finally attended to that, much to everyone’s relief. Also finally got Maggie’s old pen shovelled out. We had planned to take another look at the stovepipe situation, but we had to attend to the wellpump instead.
It turned out to be exactly the same problem as in January – the bottom rod had come unthreaded from the cylinder. But we used threadlocker last time, and it has been less than 3 months. So emails were sent to the rep we bought from for other suggestions. We got sent upstream to the actual manufacturing company from there. They have a pretty good reputation for customer service, so hopefully they’ll have some good ideas. I dont really want to have to pull the pump up every few months. That is tedious. Especially when contending with ankle-deep mud.
I did realize, though, that the house plan needs a revision. The room the pump will ultimately end up in has about a 7′ ceiling. The segments of pipe are 9′, and it needs about 18′ to pull each segment off of its corresponding rod. So, I shall have to make sure to build in some sort of roof hatch or we will be in a great mess down the line.
We didn’t pump any water yet. The Loctite needs 24 hours to fully cure, and probably more than that, as it is far colder 40′ down a well than is ideal for curing conditions. So, refilling all the water jugs will wait for tomorrow.
I planted another mini-greenhouse. A donut case. Nigella/Love in a Mist this time. Tomorrow, I may make a planter/greenhouse out of the empty milk jug.
