Unexpextedly So

Today ended up being quite busy

Unexpectedly so.

It’s all the fault of the weather, of course.

This weekend, the weather looks to be rather wretched. Which means that it is realtively unlikely that we will make it down to mom’s for laundry day. Which in turn means laundry must be done here. At least some things, anyway.

At very least, socks, underwear and husband’s work shirts must be done before Monday.

Laundry, of course, isn’t a simple task at the moment. We had hoped to be able to use the shower stall for such tasks, but we discovered several months ago that there are two major issues with that plan. 1) the basin leaks. Dreadfully. All over the floor and out cracks in the bottom of the bus. 2) it doesnt drain. The drainpipe was hooked up to a motor at some point that requires electricity to run. We havent found a way to override it, yet. So the shower stall is basically a weird closet right now.

Therefore, laundry (and bathing and dishes and anything involving water) must be done in the quite small RV-sized kitchen sink. I have my laundry sinks outdoors, but they are buried in snow at the moment, and quite unuseable.

We have a very small clothesline indoors above the heater

And a much larger one outside. It is not pleasant hanging wet clothes outside in the cold, though. My fingers do not approve.

All water must also be pumped and carried in buckets and heated in a pot as well, which takes considerable time. The socks and undies took most of my available morning. Sneak in barn chores, compost, dishes and meal prep, and we had to be out by 12 for homeschooler’s group. We were late.

I will still need to get to the work shirts, but at least we can all have clean butts and feet.

At homeschool group today, the kiddos each presented a show and tell of their choosing. We learned the ASL ABC’s, plus words beginning with each letter, they practiced the art skills they learned the last 3 times. It went well, but I was exhausted by the end of the day. It wasnt even dark yet when I crawled up into my bed.

If early to bed and early to rise make a girl healthy, wealthy and wise (as the saying goes), I should have Solomon’s empire sometime next year.
