Home again, my Ducklings

After three blissfully quiet days, we headed down to pick up the kiddos this morning. And in the killing of many birds with one stone, also laundy, bathing, charging of batteries, sitting in upholstered chairs and the making of a very large batch of chocolate chip cookies.

Husband and kiddos made the cookies. He’s heading back to work tomorrow for the first time in 14 months, and they are no longer used to him not being home with us all the time. They’re going to miss having him around, so he made sure to do a special activity with them. The cookies themselves are for a very pregnant friend of ours. He promised to make them for her some time ago, and it is best not to lie to a pregnant lady about something as serious as cookies. We’ll deliver them later in the week.

We spent some time rummaging the storage truck, too; pulling out the furnishing we brought back this time, and singling out more to be brought in the next few trips. One such item is an antique dresser that was Husband’s. It had odd, long legs on it, making it quite tall and spindly. I suspect it was designed to have a matching chest of some kind underneath it. Lacking such a chest, though, it was simply oddly giraffelike. We fixed that today. We cut the legs off. It is now 17 inches shorter and I like it rather more than I did before. The legs might make a nice table, too. We shall see.

I also realized today that I shal have to reshuffle my barn floor plan. The wall I had intended to put the stovepipe through just isnt going to work. So, I have to reconfigure my brain around a new plan. It will work. I just have to play with it a little. Once I have an idea fixed in my head, it is hard to change.

My van also decided to yell at me today. Time to change the oil (although I am not terribly over the kms from last time). So now I have to figure out how to fit that task in, too. So fun.
