At Last

We finally have four insulated walls!

It will be very interesting to see how long it takes for the last bits of frozen floor to thaw out now.

Early this afternoon, husband began installing the batts. Mom and I cut and installed strapping to hold said batting in the wall cavity. The side walls are not studded. Therefore there is no 16 inch centers to hold the batts in place. The strapping and vapor barrier must do it alone.

2 layers of strapping, then vapor barrier

6 bags of insulation, minus 1.5 batts left over. That’s pretty good. Insulation, strapping, vapor barrier, canvas, more strapping. We ran out of time and enthusiasm to finish the canvas today. We’ll work on that tomorrow. The kids’ area, however, we finished the walls of, and got the beds placed, fully assembled, and the mattresses in place.

With their dressers, a rug, and their bookshelf, they should have a pretty cozy room.

Once the rest of the canvas is up (or the best we can do with what we have left, at least), we can get our bed set in place, and the ‘living room’ area also. It will bit by bit become an actual living space. That part is kind of fun.

In the usual manner of construction zones, I must have swept the floor 17 times today. And it will be dirty again tomorrow…
