Putting the Hat On

The frame was finished. Our builder friend was home, and there was a day in the coming week that had almost no wind. All the pieces were in place. We called in a few friends and a couple of my cousins. It’s Roofing Day!

When you’re dealing with 24′ sheets of steel, no wind is extremely important. If a gust comes up at the wrong time, you now are holding onto a kite with very sharp edges. Most average days, the wind here blows at the 20-35km/h range. Windy days, we get anywhere from 50-75km/hr. This particular day, we had 13km/hr. Doesnt get much better than that.

We had a bit of a slow start. Some of the crew didnt get here until almost 11, but there was plenty to do all the same

Roof wrap going down

We have 912sq ft of roof, which is a considerable amount of space to cover. It took most of a roll of roof wrap.

First couple sheets going down. The one laying down is my husband. He was terrified, but insisted on doing the work.

We had cherished fond hopes that some of the siding would be done this day, too, but having the roof finished was a huge step forward. By the end of the day, the roof was on, the windows and doors were set in place, and the trim was on. Our builder friend had carefully shown both of us how to continue the work on our own.

Final sheet!

We have the beginnings of a real building. The rest, as it has been all along, is up to us.
