A Firm Foundation. Finally.

The foundation was prepped Thursday. Concrete wasn’t available until Monday, ‘sometime’. My experience with “sometime” thus far was that it meant approximately ‘somewhere between Wednesday and Never.’ So imagine my surprise when we were wakened by the sound of trucks on Monday morning before the sun had fully risen.

8:22 am

By lunchtime, we had a beautiful slab of concrete. Before it had time to fully harden, we inscribed the edges with scripture and blessings. It mattered to us that we begin well in this way, carving in stone our dedication to serving the King here, however He chooses.

It is always slightly amazing to me how quickly the sloppy goop that is concrete becomes immensely hard. Before 1 pm it was too stiff to inscribe any more. By mid afternoon, the kids were capering about on it. It would need 3 days to fully cure, and then the build could begin in earnest.
